Chalipa at YRDSB Persian Heritage Month 2026

In March 2026, Chalipa Art Centre was honoured to take part in the Persian Heritage Month celebrations hosted by the York Region District School Board (YRDSB). These meaningful events brought together students, families, educators, and community members to celebrate Persian culture, heritage, and the spirit of Nowruz.

The celebrations took place on March 24 at the YRDSB Education Support Centre in Aurora and on March 30 at Meadowbrook Public School in Newmarket. Organized by Inclusive Schools and Community Services (ISCS), the Iranian/Afghan Educator Alliance (IAEA), and the OPC Persian/Iranian Admins Affinity Group, the events highlighted the rich contributions of the Persian community to Ontario’s cultural and social landscape.

Chalipa’s participation reflected its ongoing commitment to preserving and sharing the beauty of Persian art, calligraphy, and cultural heritage with the wider community. Through this collaboration, Chalipa was proud to contribute to an inspiring celebration of identity, creativity, and cultural continuity.

In October 2026, Chalipa Art Centre was honoured to take part in Islamic Heritage Month in collaboration with the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) through a dedicated calligraphy workshop.

This workshop introduced students and community members to the beauty, discipline, and cultural significance of calligraphy within Islamic artistic traditions. Through guided practice and thoughtful instruction, participants explored the elegance of letterforms, the rhythm of the pen, and the meditative qualities of this timeless art.

On September 21, 2023, an astonishing calligraphy workshop took place at the Harbourfront Centre, organized in collaboration with the Toronto International Festival of Authors and the Aga Khan Museum. This event provided an exceptional opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the art of calligraphy, a practice renowned for its beauty and historical significance.
