Founder / Artist / Instructor
Laleh Rasaee
Laleh Rasaee is a Persian calligraphy artist, instructor, and creative lead based in Toronto. A certified Persian calligrapher, she graduated from the Association of Persian Calligraphers in Iran in 1996. She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Communication from the University of Art in Tehran, completed in 2007, and a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, completed in 2005.
Alongside her artistic practice, Laleh has built a professional career of more than 10 years in packaging, graphic design, and marketing. As a creative designer and lead, she brings a refined understanding of visual communication, branding, composition, and commercial design to both her professional and artistic work.
With 27 years of teaching experience, Laleh has dedicated her career to preserving and sharing the art of Persian calligraphy and visual arts. Before moving to Canada, she taught art in Iran for 10 years, including at art schools and college-level programs, where she guided students in developing their artistic skills, visual awareness, and creative expression. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
From 2011 to 2024, she led the Persian Calligraphers Association of Toronto, supporting the growth and visibility of Persian calligraphy within the Canadian arts community.
In recent years, Laleh has developed a deeper connection between Nastaliq calligraphy and mindfulness. Through her teaching, she invites students to experience calligraphy not only as a visual art but also as a meditative practice that cultivates patience, focus, and inner calm. By encouraging students to slow down, observe each pen movement, and connect with the rhythm of every stroke, she offers a distinctive teaching approach that brings together artistic discipline, emotional balance, and mindful presence.
Laleh is the founder of Chalipa Art Centre, a Toronto-based organization dedicated to Persian calligraphy, typography, and calligraphy-painting.
